I enjoy my work and my co-workers but my boss is extremely autocratic. He/she makes the work environment almost unbearable. Should I leave?

If this person has direct and regular influence on your everyday activities and progress, tread very carefully. Could you have a constructive conversation with this person in terms of how you could work better together? What could be your backup plans? Could you transition to a better team within the same organisation? Could you move to another company that offers you similar opportunities? List down your options.

You have to consider your pros and cons. Is the work giving you enough - in terms of money, experience, lifestyle, stability etc (or other factors that are most important to you). If the pros outweigh the cons, then stay, for the moment.

Reflect on how the autocratic boss affects you - in terms of workload, progress trajectory (how much does this person control your growth?), your work style and your personal principle. Are they your direct supervisor who you deal with day to day or a superior whose direct influence you can limit? Try to articulate the practical changes that need to happen that would allow you to do your job well.
